Ultra Light
whats a good ultra light action 2 piece fishing rod to buy?

i NEED a two piece pole because im going to travel with it. if i could get a link with the pole right there please. THANK YOU.

Backwater gets my vote for best answer.

The only reason to own a 2 piece rod is for hardcore travel/backpacking purposes. Try to purchase a one piece rod if you can. Remember, a rod is only as good as it’s weakest link, (and this is esp true on an Ultra Light rod!).

It’s important to get a sensitive and well-built Ultra Light rod because it will generally have to endure more “stress” than a medium/medium heavy rod. Well-built, sensitive, rods aren’t cheap!

A true “Ultra light” rod should not be rated for more than 6LB Mono. A GOOD Ultra light rod should be at least 7′, (the best Ultra light rods are generally longer with “extra fast” tips to help you “leverage” bigger fish). Also, the best Ultra light rods are Spinning rods.

Here are some examples of decent, mid-priced, Ultra light/Medium Light rods-

1. BPS Brand Pro X- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_101611_100002002_100000000_100002000_100-2-2

2. Berkley “Shock” Series- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104159_100002002_100000000_100002000_100-2-2 You would want the 7′ ML version.

3. Shimano Compre- GREAT rod for the price. You would want the UL 7′ – http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74453_100002002_100000000_100002000_100-2-2

4. St. Croix Premiere – You would want model PS7OULF2- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74392_100002002_100000000_100002000_100-2-2

These are 4 decent UL/ML rods with good reputations for durability, sensitivity, and over-all performance. If you want “better” then you should look into the Kistler line, G. Loomis line, and Carrot Stix line.

FYI: Berkley Cherrywood rods are not “bad” rods, (esp for the price!). But those that love them have rarely fished with anything “better”. The difference between a $60-$100 rod and a $22 Cherrywood rod is like “night and day”. Understand, better tackle WILL make you a better fisherman, (period).

In everything, “You get what you PAY for”. You buy “dirt cheap” and odds are you will get “dirt cheap” quality and performance.

Hope this helps? Thumbs to BC.
