Can Tandem Rotor Heli’s still fly if one fails?
I was looking at pictures of a Chinook and was wondering..
Is that a no?
Jimmbbo is right.
Not only does the cross shafting ensures that both rotors keep working in case of an engine failure, but they do have to be coordinated (mechanicaly linked) just so they spin at the same rate, otherwise they may impact one another.
Therefore, if one rotor was to fail (detach) or seize, then there is not way the helicopter could remain airborne.
