Military Moms Please Read?
I was wondering if it’s ok to go to the gun range while pregnant. I plan on wearing a respirator and gloves to protect me from ingesting any lead. But do you think that the loudness will affect the baby? It’s an indoor range. I’ve looked on the web but can’t find any information on this.
the noise isn’t a problem, the amniotic fluid is protecting baby’s ears and muffling the sound.
It is important to protect yourself from lead by keeping your skin covered and either wearing a mask or being in a facility that uses hepa-ventilation.
It’s also usually recommended that you stick to small arms (handguns). This is moreso for your own protection; since relaxin is acting to loosen your muscles you may have more difficulty handling recoil and are more likely to fall or sustain an injury. And obviously laying on your belly is not a good idea. But, with a few precautions, it is perfectly safe to go to the range while pregnant.
I got my concealed weapons permit at 7months pregnant and have been to the range several times. My husband, whose in the army, also works range control and he’s dealt with pregnant women before, it’s not a problem. Just trust your instincts.
